I met my friend Vincent for a quick 500 point game of 40k last night.
He brought Imperial Guard. He had a Demolisher, Chimera, Command Squad and two units of Vets with special weapons.
I brought a basic Overlord, 2x 5 man Warriors, Annihilation Barge, 6 Scarab bases and 2 Spyders.
The Scarabs were brutal. They stripped 11 points of armor from the Demolisher on turn 2. Also, the Spyders just kept making more. I ended the game with 9 bases! I think I gained 8 bases over the course of the game. That's an extra 120 points worth! I might have to get a 3rd Spyder.

More Progress on my Tau
I got my Ethereal and a 12 man block of Kroot assembled.
The weather outside was perfect, so I did some priming. I'm following the new GW Hot to Paint Tau Empire iPad app that was just released. I'm not quite done with the test model, but I wanted to show some progress.

New Pathfinders and Kroot
I bought a box of the new Pathfinders today. I'm quite pleased with the options. I don't have my camera on me, but I'll take some pictures tomorrow before I prime them.
I was on a little bit of a roll today and also put together one of the old metal Ethereals as well as a 12 man block of Kroot.
I'm not sure that I'll play with the Kroot, but now that they can take Sniper rifles, they seem to be a viable choice. I might take them, drop them in terrain and let them sit. I've always played with Farsight and now that he's more Xenos friendly, I can try out the Kroot.
Pics to come soon.

Tau Remora Drones
I picked up a couple of Forge World Remora Drones. They were actually pretty easy to assemble. My plan is to get them painted up for Tau new release day.
I'm not sure that they're actually useful. At 110 points each they seem a little pricey. I think they're intended for anti infantry with the extra ability to fire seeker missiles against other flyers.

Debating a Forge World Purchase
There are a group of players in the local community who band together once every 3 months or so and place a Forge World order. If you place more than 250 (USD or GBP, I forget) worth of stuff, shipping is free. Shipping is normally 15% of your total order, so this is quite a savings.
The last time we ordered, I got two Remora Drones and a Plasma Defense Turret.
I think this time around I'm considering getting one of these guys.
I would probably just use him as a standard commander with twin-linked plasma and a shield generator. My friends tend to play a lot of MEQ (Marines and their Equivalents), so twin-linked plasma is really helpful in taking down those tough units.
The shield just looks awesome. If I could order just those shields, I would use them for every crisis suit that has a shield generator. I might try my hand at casting.
If anyone knows where you can order just the shields, please email me.

Tau Kill Teams Test
Tomorrow night marks the test of my kill team. I'm not expecting great things as the team is more fun than anything.
Here it is:
Deathrain+ Pattern Crisis Suit (Armourbane)
6 Fire Warriors with Photon Grenades (one with Hammer of Wrath)
Piranha with Fusion Blaster, Disruption Pod and Decoy Launchers (It Will Not Die)
I'll post the results.

More Work on the Tau Kill Team
I did some more work on my Tau Kill Team today. I got the weapons more or less done.
I also tried something new on the little shields. I tried to get a nice even gradient from one color to another. I want the armor in general to be a little dirty and smudged, but for the areas I would consider to be powered to be gleaming and bright. This includes the little shields as well as the power indicators on the backpacks.
The more I paint these guys, the more they're taking on a colorful anime sort of style. I'm kind of digging it.
I also colored in some armor panels with The Fang (old Shadow Grey) and highlighted with whatever the next color up is. I'm not entirely sure if everything looks appropriate as I'm colorblind! haha. I pretty much just stick to the basics and match highlights to bases. The new GW paint line is spectacular for people like me. Everything lines up together really well and the paints tend to come in three color blocks.
And I remembered to color in the bare arm dude's arm. Looks much better to me now.
Let me know what you think. I think you can leave comments. If not, send an email to kriswall@gmail.com.

iPhone Test Post
Just wanted to see how this looks if I post from an iPhone. Great success.
To make this official, I'm posting a pic of a work in progress Deathrain patter Crisis Suit.

Tau Kill Teams WIP
I've assembled, primed and started painting my tau kill team. I used fire warriors mixed with chaos marauders to make the models. I had to shave off the noses and put a slit in the foreheads, but I'm happy with the results.
I also decided that since the Tau are basically the anime army of the Warhammer 40k universe, that I would give me pink anime rave hair. I needed a contrasting highlight color and this seemed like a win. Besides, they're aliens!!!
