Wraithknight Work in Progress (Almost Complete)

So, I did a TON of work on my Wraithknight conversion today.  He's intended to be a part of my Eldar force allied into my Farsight Enclaves/Tau main force.  I wanted to only use Eldar parts, but capture the feeling of the Tau.  I believe I did so.  I decided to use parts from both the Squadron Command Frame and one of the Eldar Support Weapons to make a Heavy Wraithcannon Gun Drone.  The Wraithknight is controlling it with a hand held device.  I really like how it worked out.  I think once I finish the painting, the copper tube holding up the drone isn't going to be super obvious.

Size Comparison with a Tau Riptide.  In all fairness, the Riptide has a somewhat hunched pose, so he's shorter than normal.

I picked up an Eldar Wraithknight at my local GW store today. It's going to be the bruiser that gets attached as an ally to my Tau Farsight Bomb list. It's not a bad kit, but it's not quite as pose able as I'd have liked. The knees have a limited range of motion and the hip sockets also are pretty tight.  I wanted to give it a more dynamic pose. As normal, I'll be posting more once I've gotten a little more work done. For some reason, my iPad isn't allowing me to post pictures right now.

4 Sentence Naruto Review + Gundam Converge Conversion... Convergions?

So, I watched this a couple of days ago and it was terrible.  It was so mad primarily because there was a plot device that prevented everyone from using their "magic powers" for the majority of the movie.  Turns out I'm just in it for the over the top fight scenes.  Do not watch Naruto: Blood Prison unless you want to be bored.

On an unrelated note, my plan is to convert the below guy from the Gundam Converge line into a Tau Crisis Suit/Sniper Drone Team Spotter this weekend.  I don't think it should be TOO hard, but will require that I sort through my bits box to find some appopriate Tau bits.  These Zaku I Sniper Types are actually pretty cool looking.  I'm thinking that I'll convert the gun into a large Markerlight, replace the head and let the paint job do most of the rest of the work.

Work

Work was particularly tedious today. I work at a large bank and one of my job functions is to provide MIS and statistics where we've never had me before.  This involves lots of digging through various disconnected databases and figuring out how best to connect them.

It can be mentally draining.

All I want to do is sleep, but I promised myself that I would work on the Wave Serpents. The first is assembled, but needs to be based. I'll probably assemble the second tonight. If I'm diligent, I might be able to have the army prepared for my weekly battle with my buddy Steve.

I had 38 points left over when building the army list. Until I think of something better, that 38 points is going to be a single Crisis Suit with dual flames and the wargear option that lets you bring in outflankers from any table edge within 6". Depending on how that works out, I might scrap it and add upgrades to another unit.

Also...  Saw this and thought it was a cool rust effect in the real world.

Base for Wave Serpent

I'm a big fan of properly basing my models, and this includes any Skimmers in the army.  I figure that other tanks are designed to sit on the ground, but I like for my Skimmers to appear floating.  Here is an example...

Tau Skyray with Basing Example
I stopped by my local Michaels store today and found some wooden oval discs that will be the perfect size to use for basing my newly acquired Wave Serpents.  The wood is sort of a light tan, so I probably didn't pick the best background for contrast, but I think it gets the idea across.  The intent is to base my Eldar models to match my Tau army, so this base will look similar to the above.  I'll try to remember to take some Work in Progress photos.

Start to the Eldar Allies

I broke down and bought two Wave Serpents yesterday.  I have the first one assembled.  It's actually a pretty nice kit and goes together well.  I'm not entirely certain that I put it together correctly though.  They both came with instruction for an entirely different model.

There were two sets of "rear holds".  I went with the longer of the two, reasoning that as a Dedicated Transport, more space was needed.

I'll assemble the other one over the next couple of days and then start painting them both at the same time.  My plan is to paint them using my Tau color scheme to maintain a consistency between the two armies.  I might add some Tau antennas and what not to make it obvious who they are working with.

1850 Game Results

Well...  it didn't go well.  It didn't go well at all.

As per the previous post, I played my 1850 Puretide Bomb list against a friend's dual Wraithknight/Wave Serpent Spam list and he killcrushed me.  I made a few pretty basic errors during the game, but I don't think that would have mattered at all.

What we decided is that both lists have their devastating elements and then their elements that don't work so well.  The net result is that he's going to be adding some Tau allies to his list and I'll be adding a Spiritseer/Wraithknight and 2x Dire Avenger/Wave Serpent squads.

I think that'll work out well.  My plan is to stop by the local GW either today or Wednesday (they're closed on Mon/Tues) to pick up a Wave Serpent.  I want to see if I can Tau it up a little.  I'm not sure how easy it will be to convert, but I don't think it should be too bad.

1850 Point Tau Farsight/Puretide Bomb List

Hello all.

In preparation for an upcoming tournament, I'll be playing an 1850 point game of Warhammer 40k versus my good buddy Steve tomorrow.

I'm running a Farsight Bomb list with a couple of added units.  I usually play only at the 1500 point level, so I had to jazz this list up a little.

Here is my list.

Warlord
Commander Shadowsun

HQ
Commander Farsight
Farsight's Bodyguard Team:

  • 3x Dual Plasma w/Target Lock
  • 2x Dual Missile Pod w/Target Lock
  • 1x Dual Fusion Blaster w/Target Lock
  • Buff Commander (basically every possible option, but no weapons)
  • 14 Total Gun Drones
Troops
6x Fire Warriors in a Devilfish
10x Kroot w/1x Kroot Hound

Elites
Riptide w/Ion Accelerator and Feels No Pain upgrade

Heavy Support
2x Skyrays
2x Broadsides as a team with Interceptor and 4x total Missile Drones

I'm also bringing some custom objective markers and terrain.  The Kroothound is also custom.  I'm using a 40mm base with some built up basing material and a series of small drones to simulate the Acute Sense rule.

I plan on taking pictures during the combat.

My Tau Objective Markers

My army's illustrious Leader

The larger base is a counts-as Canoptek Spyder.  The smaller base is a counts-as Canoptek Scarab base.  I'll be using the Scarab base as the counts-as Kroothound.  So...  it's a counts-as counts-as.

Arcadia Quest

I ended up funding CoolMiniOrNot's Arcadia Quest Kickstarter project at the lowest level.

I think this is going to be a great game, with some fun looking minis.  I'm currently in the process of downloading three YouTube painting tutorials that they put up to get the "chibi anime" look.  I'm pretty excited about learning some new techniques.

This is what I got.  It should ship somewhere around September.

Gundam Converge Unboxing - Zaku I Sniper Type

I got this bad boy in the mail yesterday and opened it up.  My plan is to do a little conversion work and use this as the Spotter model for my Tau Sniper Drone Team.  I think it will fit the aethetic of the Tau once I do a little work on it.

The plan is to replace the head with a Crisis Suit head, cut the gun barrel down and make it look like a markerlight and maybe convert the backpack somehow to make it look like a fancy drone controller.

The ultimate goal is to make it look like some sort of slightly smaller than average, sniper control variant Crisis Suit for my Farsight Enclaves army.  I'll post pics once I have the conversion started.

Gundam Converge Zephyranthes Unboxing

Hello all!

I got a pleasant surprise in my postal box this morning...  the Gundam Converge Zephyranthes that I wasn't expecting for another couple of weeks.

This is what the box looked like.

Here are all of the contents.

The kit is surprisingly nice and somewhat poseable.  I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

I won't be using the head or the shield at all and will most likely have to cut the gun off of the right hand.  The backpack is actually nice looking and might work as a jump pack straight out of the box.

The big plastic thing seems to be a stand for the model.

The absolutely weirdest thing about this kit is that it seems to come with a piece of bubble gum.  Is this normal?  Is this sort of like how American baseball cards backs used to come with a piece of gum?  Heck, they might still.  I haven't bought baseball cards in probably 25 years.

And finally, here's the picture that made me track down and purchase this.

5000 Views!

I hit 5000 views yesterday.

It took 80 days to go from 4000 to 5000.  I'm going to try to get that down even further this time.  I'm going to be playing a game of 40k later today with my buddy Steve.

I'm going to try to take some pictures and post them up as a battle report.

More Arcadia Quest Miniatures

The Arcadia Quest Kickstarter is still going strong.  They're currently at $388k and have added the following stretch goals for miniatures.

I really am on the fence on this one.  The gameplay looks great.  The minis look great.  I love how some of them are clearly based on pop culture icons.  The Prince Aaron/King Arthur mini alone would get me interested.  I'm just not sure how often I'd be able to drum friends up to play with me.

Vegan Update

Down 2 lbs so far!  That's 0.91 kilos for those of you who don't use ridiculous imperial measurements.

Huzzah!

More Arcadia Quest

It looks more and more like I'm gonna be buying into this Kickstarter.

Here are the additional minis unlocked so far.  Of course, they've also unlocked things like sculpted wound counters, additional cards and game materials, etc.  If we all look deep down though, we get most excited about the minis.

And then there are two unlocked that you can pay a little extra for...

Post 100 (well, 102 actually)

I posted #100 without even realizing it.  This is actually post #102.  And I'm almost up to 5000 views as well.  Huzzah!

Veganism Motivation

So, yesterday, and mostly as a joke, my wife said that if I stay Vegan from today until May 23rd (my birthday), she'll buy the below item for me and let me keep it on the kitchen counter next to her coffee maker.  Totally worthwhile goal!

Deff Dread Conversions

I've been working on a couple of Deff Dread Conversions.  These two will give me a total of four, which is two pairs of Troops.

The first up is a pretty simple conversion using some small pieces if hardware to replicate drill arms.

The second is a Looted Carnifex.  It's not done yet.  I'm gonna build a little platform on the top with a couple of Grots manning a Skorcha.  I'll also add some sort of gizmo with wires running into his brain.  My favorite bit is how the Iron Gob turned out.

Veganism

Today "officially" marks Day 1 of the Veganism thing.  I wanted to officially start on the first of a month to make the tracking a little easier to stay on top of.

I will be out running a Kill Teams tournament at the Bear, DE Game Workshop store today.  Luckily, there is a Moe's burrito/taco place and they have tofu as one of the protein options.  Tofu + Beans + Rice + various peppers and lettuce/tomato is actually really tasty.  Load up enough hot stuff, while staying away from dairy and your mouth will burn for hours! (Which is a good thing for fans of super spicy foods)

Gundam Converge Models

While looking for conversion inspiration online, I ran across the following photo...

The model to the right is a tad short, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a creative basing.  Some further research showed that it is based off of a Gundam Converge model.  The head is on a peg and so can be easily removed.  I ordered one off eBay as well as the shown Sniper model for about $10 each.  They're coming from Japan and Hong Kong respectively, so I'm not sure how long I'll have to wait.  I'm pretty excited though.  My plan is to use the "Zephyranthes" suit as my Puretide/Loaded up with Special Issue Wargear Suit and the sniper as a Crisis type stand-in for the spotter in a Sniper Drone Team.  I'll just convert the gun barrel to be a Markerlight.

I'm very excited about this.  I'll post pics as soon as the models come in.  I don't think it'll take me very long to assemble and paint the conversions.
