I'm not likely NOT going to back this as I have several outstanding pledges right now, some of which are over 7 months past due in showing up.
...but this lookds pretty cool.
The World of Smog: Rise of Moloch is a miniatures based board game where 1-4 players band together and try to defeat the Nemesis player. It's a many versus one type of game. I'm sort of at a point where these games are hard to sell to my gaming groups. Nobody ever wants to play as the bad guy. We're all a little too competitive and being the bad guy really makes you feel like everyone is ganging up on you.
This seems to be your standard gaming fare for these sorts of games. There is a map that everyone clusters around and you try to knock out bad guys while achieving set objectives.
The thing that really draws me to this game, though, is the aesthetic of the miniatures. The world is set in a sort of steampunk Victorian England with werewolves, robots and other things. It really is an interesting look.
If you think it's something you'd be interested in, check it out.

Kickstarter Games... SOON
I know I mention Kickstarter games every once in awhile on this blog. Several of them are getting CLOSE. Here are a couple of updates, mainly because I had to read through a million comments to figure out when things are showing up.
This game is supposed to have production and factory packing complete by around the time this post goes up. At that point, things get shipped to distribution hubs throughout the world and then into my greedy hands.
I am not a patient man. These things need to hurry up.

This game is actually at the same point as Masmorra. It should be finished production and prepping for shipment to distribution hubs this week. It looks like I'll be getting Masmorra and Arcadia Quest at about the same time. That's actually pretty awesome since all the Masmorra heroes can be used in Arcadia Quest.Rail Raiders...
This game is waiting for a production proof to be completed. Once that happens, production goes into full effect with distribution hub shipping shortly thereafter. Honestly, I'm kinda meh on this one. The game looked ok, but I mainly got it for the miniatures.I am not a patient man. These things need to hurry up.

Arcadia Quest Inferno Update #61
Arcadia Quest Inferno was supposed to arrive in June. CMON grossly overestimated their ability to deliver on time for such a well funded Kickstarter and more or less immediately let the backers know that we should expect more of an October delivery date. Now, today, I get this...
"As things stand, it does not seem delivery will happen in October as previously announced. It's looking more like backers will be getting their boxes of Arcadian goodies towards the end of the year."
Ten bucks says I don't see this package in 2016. This was originally supposed to be a big 2016 summer time waster for me. Sigh.
At least they're making tons of progress...

Kickstarter Woes...
OMG... I need to stay away from Kickstarter. I'm debating on getting the new Vampire Hunters game. It's "only" $90 for the core pledge. But... I have all these outstanding right now. I might have a problem with Kickstarter...

Cool Mini or Not - Massive Darkness Kickstarter
Oh man...
I think I'm in trouble. This new board game up on Kickstarter from Cool Mini or Not looks AMAZING. To use their own words...
I think I'm in trouble. This new board game up on Kickstarter from Cool Mini or Not looks AMAZING. To use their own words...
Massive Darkness is a dungeon crawling board game for 1 to 6 players. With no game master and streamlined rules, players take their heroes on a series of quests to defeat the forces of Darkness. On their way they'll face many challenges, including a large variety of enemies that range from mobs of evil dwarves to gargantuan demons and spiders. To be victorious, heroes will need to acquire new skills throughout the campaign, find the the best loot to equip themselves, and learn how to use the cover of darkness to their advantage!
I really like a good dungeon crawler, but I'm rarely able to play as they almost all require either a player to control the bad guys or involve a PvP element that can't be avoided. This is a truly cooperative game for between 1 and 6 players. The key there is the number 1. This game can be played solo, which immediately puts it above other games like Descent and Imperial Assault in my mind. Granted, I love Descent and the Road to Legend app allows it to be played solo, but it currently has very little content.
The models for this new game look pretty amazing too.
I believe these are renders, but CMON does a pretty solid job of translating their renders to actual production. I haven't been disappointed with their previous games. Plus, there are a couple of production models displayed in the Kickstarter, such as...
...the Cliffbreaker Cyclops! This dude is a beast. The rest of the bad guys look pretty solid too. You have two kinds. Mobs are composed of Bosses and Minions...
...while Roaming Monsters run around on their own.
There are also Agent bad guys, but I'm not sure which those are. The way I read it, they roam around like the big guys, but have the ability to summon in low level Minions to make the encounters tougher.
The game play looks pretty well designed. Each player has a sort of dashboard and controls his or her dudes as they wander around a dungeon made up of two sided tiles and connecting pieces. As they quest, they'll level up and gain abilities and gear from treasure caches or from looting monsters. The quests themselves form the basis for a campaign, composed of a currently unknown number of quests.
The game is still early in its campaign, but given that this is a CMON campaign, I'm expecting to see TONS of stretch goals with lots of Kickstarter exclusive content.
I'm currently waiting Rail Raiders Infinite, Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcade and Arcadia Quest: Inferno. This new game looks amazing, and I'll likely back it, but I haven't decided to what level. The core pledge is $120 and there aren't currently any add-ons, but knowing CMON... there will be. This is a 30 day campaign, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they have up their sleeves!

Rail Raiders Infinite Kickstarter
I'm not generally a fan of the games that Soda Pop Miniatures puts out. On the surface, they sometimes look amazing, but then the actual game play falls short. I bought Super Dungeon Explorer and just ended up disappointed.
Hence, I'm a little hesitant about their current Kickstarter offering. The game is called Rail Raiders Infinite and is about a group of outlaws from the future trying to loot a space train. It actually looks pretty solid. I'm a big fan of the chibi mini style. If nothing else, I might be able to make some custom cards and use these minis with Arcadia Quest.
The game itself is only 50 USD. Of course, you'll end up paying a little more when shipping is included, but that's really not a bad price for a game like this. Currently, you're getting 10 heroes and 14 bad guy "Lawbots". Chances are pretty good that by the time you're reading this, the number of bad guys has doubled through a stretch goal.
There is also a single add-on right now for a 5th player expansion. The game normally only plays 2-4 players. I might end up getting this expansion, but haven't decided yet. This company doesn't tend to do Kickstarter Exclusives. The exansion will be available via retail later, but might cost a little more.
There are about two weeks until this campaign is done, so I'm expecting to see quite a few stretch goals come and go. I'll probably post another update in a couple of weeks showing what I end up getting.
You can check out the campaign here...

Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcardia
If you guys read my blog regularly, you might know that I'm a huge fan of a game called Arcadia Quest. It's a board game that combines PvP, PvE, and chibi miniatures. You should really do yourselves a favor and check it out.
Right now, there is a Kickstarter campaign going on for an offshoot/shared world kind of game called Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia. It uses the same world and same scale and aesthetic miniatures. In fact, while the rule set is different, all of the miniatures in this new game come with "Hero Cards" that can be used in Arcadia Quest. What that means, is that if you back this new game, right now you'd get a full 20 new heroes.
Do yourselves a favor and check it out.

Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia
The good folks at Cool Mini or Not are putting out a game called Masmorra: Dungeons of Arcadia. I'm pretty psyched about this because Arcadia Quest is one of my favorite board games right now. This new game will use the same scale and aesthetic heroes, but with a new mechanic wherein you explorer a randomly generated dungeon by flipping cards and fight monsters generated with different dice. It looks pretty cool. You can see a couple of the dice below.
The Kickstarter goes live Monday, February 22nd. I'm almost certainly going to be buying into this one. They've started previewing the core models on their Facebook page. My expectation is that we'll see a preview every day from now until the Kickstarter goes live. Here's the first. He fits in perfectly with the Arcadia Quest minis.
More to come!
