Over 9000!

Just a super quick excited post to say I'm over 9000 views on this site.  I honestly never thought anyone would be interested, but I'm getting 20-30 unique hits per day right now.

Yay!

Triarch Stalker Conversion Complete (Almost!)

As I was starting to type this, I realized I hadn't taken any new pictures of the fully complete model!  The basing is done.  You'll have to be happy with the above photo until I get a chance to take more photos.  Maybe this weekend.  You'll see the complete model in action by Monday at the latest.

Shield of Baal: Deathstorm

It looks like we know for sure what will be in the Shield of Baal: Deathstorm boxed set.  It's going to be pretty darned similar to the Sanctus Reach: Stormclaw boxed set.  This set will be limited edition, which really just means that you can only get the two special characters here and only for a limited time.

It looks like the Blood Angels will consist of the Terminator First Captain of the Blood Angels, the "shooty" Terminator box, five Death Company Marines and a Death Company Dreadnought.  The Tyranids will have the limited edition Broodlord model, eight Genestealers, three Warriors and a Carnifex.

I certainly like the idea of having access to limited release models, but I'm just not sure this is worth it for me.  The Terminators are really showing their age and I think will look pretty old next to the Blood Angels First Captain.  The Death Company Marines and Dread are nice, but not awesome on the battlefield.  The 'Nids...  well, I don't play 'Nids.

I'll most likely just try to pick up the campaign book second hand off eBay.

Necron Conversion Ideas

I spent the evening at my buddy Steve's place doing some hobby work.  I assembled 6 Necron Wraiths, which will be one of the next units that I'll be adding.  I do want to add some sort of Character model to the unit which fits the aesthetic.  This will most likely be a converted Destroyer Lord or "Wraith Lord".  I did a quick Google search for inspiration and found some random pics.  If any of these are yours, let me know and I'll credit you!

Deathstorm Genestealer Broodlord - New Base

So...  this guy totally has a new base size.  Didn't see this coming, but it's nice to have some variety.  I'll definitely be picking up a copy of Shield of Baal: Deathstorm.

Triarch Stalker Conversion WIP #2

And...  we have some painting taking place.  All base coating.  I'll have to work on the weathering and basing next.  You can also see some Immortals I'm working on.  I had too much paint on my palette and didn't want it to go to waste.  I'll be featuring them in their own posts once the Stalker is finished.  I still need to base coat the bronze bits.

Citadel Project Box | Games Workshop Webstore

Citadel Project Box | Games Workshop Webstore:

I want this thing.  I want it bad.  This would make my life so much easier in terms of keeping my hobby stuff organized.  It would also make grabbing a "to go kit" an actual viable option.

I'm going to hint strongly for Christmas...  and if nothing materializes, this might be an early January purchase!

Triarch Stalker Conversion WIP

Some quick pictures to show progress.  My idea here is that the Tau (being my main army) have figured out a way to interface with Necron Canoptek tech.  It's not a full fleshed out idea, but it keeps me happy and let's me use little bits of Tau tech on my Necrons.

I left the "driver" off and replaced him with a Riptide shield.  I like the idea that the Stalker is being controlled by a customized Tau Drone.

My Necron Intentions

I have about a million and a half unfinished projects sitting around my hobby room.  I spent a portion of the past weekend looking over these models and made a couple of decisions.

Decision #1 - I don't actually like playing with most of these half painted models.  They aren't fun.  In many cases, I bought the models because I thought that adding a small [insert name of Faction here] allied detachment to my Tau would be good times.  Not the case.

Decision #2 - I'm never going to paint a million Ork Boyz.  I have something like 100 Ork Boyz.  I don't like playing with them and I'm not going to paint them.  I need to talk to Ork playing friends and then maybe pack some of these up to sell in lots or as a whole on eBay.

Decision #3 - I actually enjoy playing with my Necrons and am going to get them all painted up.

Given the above, it's likely that you're going to see a lot of Necron painting posts in the next couple of months.  I'll sprinkle in other things, but I'm going to be focused on getting 1500 points ready to play with.

Wish me luck!

And so that this post doesn't go without pictures...   Two awesome backgrounds and one line art image that will serve as a conversion inspiration for my upcoming Wraith "Sarge".

Militarum Tempestus in Shield of Baal

Sure looks like the old Storm Troopers will be making an appearance in the Shield of Baal campaign.  I'm expecting to see no more than a formation or two.  This is based on the cover of the upcoming Tempestus book from Black Library.

Shield of Baal

The rumor mill thinks that Necrons are going to be featured in the Shield of Baal campaign that GW is just now starting to release.

The first book in the series, Leviathan, appears to be about the Astra Militarum and Adepta Sororitas fighting against the Tyranids.  Supposedly, the world on which this fight takes place is protected by the Blood Angels.  The idea is that they will appear maybe in the next book.  The Necrons supposedly awaken from an underground tomb and help the Blood Angles fight off the 'Nid menace.  I'm not sure how that'll translate into the game rules, but if true I would expect at the least to see some Necron formations.

I'd absolutely love to see a "Canoptek" formation of some sort.  It's likely that there will be a campaign box set with maybe Blood Angels vs. Necrons or Blood Angels vs. Tyranids.  The rumor mill seems to be favoring Necrons right now.  I am actually pretty excited to see what happens.  Either way, I should be picking up a copy of Leviathan next week when it releases.

Necron Destroyer Lord Conversion Complete!

I had a good bit of time available to paint and was able to knock this sucker out.  I'm pretty happy with the results.  And I was wrong.  The paint scheme isn't Sautekh.  It's Nihilkh.  Whatever works!  I like the color scheme.  It's not dry bushed metal, which is what I see on Necrons 99% of the time.

Here are some pics.

Next up will be a Triarch Stalker Conversion.  Stay tuned.  Pictures of that will start appearing next week.

This Marine is doomed!

I'm using the green orb in the middle as a built in Rez Orb.

More Necron Destroyer Lord Painting WIP

Just a quick update.  I did some more distressing on the back portion.  The armour panels on that bit are completely done.  I'll have to do the same to the front segment.

I also needed a quick sense of accomplishment, so I painted the green globe in the center which I'll be using as the Resurrection Orb.  All in all, I'm pretty happy with the way this is coming along.  Although I'm not sure I'll be able to do all this work for ALL of the models in an army.  It took something like six thin coats of paint to get the turquoise on smooth.

Necron Destroyer Lord Painting WIP

I decided to do a little work on the Destroyer Lord conversion I posted earlier.  I'm going to be following the GW How to Paint Necrons guide.  I think it's the Sautekh Dynasty...  whichever one has an aged turquoise armour look.

Here are some initial photos.  More to come as I paint more.

I'm painting this guy in segments.  The back half is starting to get a little distressing, but for the most part I'm still working on basecoating everything.

Inspiration

I ran across this and it's amazing.  I have a Nightbringer sitting in my closet, collecting dust.  I might have to try something like this.

Sneak Preview

Here's a quick sneak peek at something I'm working on.  More details to come.  This is VERY preliminary.

Necron Destroyer Lord Conversion

I went over to my buddy Steve's place for a nice night of building models and watching movies.  We saw the movie Horns starring whoever the guy is who played Harry Potter.  It was a pretty solid movie, despite the ending being a little hokey.

I spent my time slamming a Canoptek Spider together with some other Necron bits to make a custom Destroyer Lord.  It's based on a conversion I saw from my other friend.

Here you have it.  I'll likely try to get it painted up this weekend.  I didn't have bits for a Warscythe, so the sword is a counts-as.  I'll paint the orb in the center of the spider body as a glowing green Ressurection Orb.  The Mindshackle Scarabs are obviously housed in the Scarab Hive. :)
