Star Wars 40k - Sweet Jesus, It's Beautiful.

So...

This is amazing.

Someone actually made these absolutely beautiful fan Codices for Star Wars.

The quality on these is extremely professional.  I talked to one of my buddies already and we're planning on putting some armies together.  We both have random old Star Wars minis which will be great as proxies until we can get something a little nicer.

This is truly an amazing fan project.

Check it out...

Sanctus Reach : Stormclaw Details

Hello all!

This is something pretty awesome.  Games Workshop is putting out what I can only assume is the first in a series of army versus army campaign boxes in the Sanctus Reach line.  Sanctus Reach, if you're not aware, is Warhammer 40k's new campaign series.

So, this first box set is called Sanctus Reach : Stormclaw and features the mighty Space Wolves versus the mean, green fightin' machines...  the Orks!

I'm going to run down the details of what we know and then make a couple of comments and obervations.

First...  what is in the box?  This is what we know for sure.  The following models are included in the box:

The Ork Half

The Space Wolf Half
The Ork contigent consists of a special new Warboss model known as Warboss Grukk and the contents of a box of Killa Kans, a box of Nobz and a box of Gretchin.

The Space Wolves consist of a new Wolf Lord named Dragongaze and the contents of a SW Terminator box and a SW Power Armoured dudes box.

These are NOT snap fit models!

We'll also be getting a mini version of the rules and a campaign book.

So what's it worth?  What are the numbers?  The price will be 125 USD, which is an amazing deal.  Let's add things up.

  • Killa Kans 46.25 USD
  • Gretchin 16.50 USD
  • Nobz 25.00 USD
  • SW Termies 50.00 USD
  • SW Grey Hunters 37.25 USD
  • SW Wolf Lord 25.00 USD (estimate)
  • Ork Warboss 25.00 USD (estimate)
  • Small Rulebook 25.00 USD (estimate based on eBay 6th edition prices)
  • Campaign Book - includes rules and multiple formations/datasheets.  I'm gonna estimate this as being worth 3 copies of White Dwarf, so 12 USD
This comes out to a total of approximately 262 USD worth of value.  At 135 USD, this is a phenomenal deal.  Also, keep in mind that since the majority of these models AREN'T push fit, you'll have tons of leftover bits and buying multiple copies will give you a true variation in poses.

I for one can't wait for this.  I'll be making a preorder as soon as they go live and might end up buying multiple copies.  You can always use more of everything in the box and I'm excited by the prospect of Space Wolf formations and new HQ datasheets for both armies.

Lastly, this makes me strongly think that there will be a new Space Wolf codex sooner than later.

Change You Can Believe In! (Tzeentch Clown Car)

So, I was having a read through the rules last night and something in particularly struck a chord with the Malefic Daemonology psychic discipline.

Consider this...

1850 Point Unbound Army List
19x ML3 Herald of Tzeentch
Each Herald chooses all three powers from Malefic Daemonology, meaning that they have a roughly 62% chance to get any given power.  Typically, 11 Heralds will get any specific power and all of them will have the primaris.

Turn 1.
Step 1: 3x casting of the #1 power, which should eliminate scatter for summoned daemons AND give your army a 2++ thanks to what appears to be a stackable +1 to the daemon's invuln throw.
Step 2: 1x casting of basic summoning to get a unit of 10 Pink Horrors.
Step 3: As many castings of the #4 power as possible, using Pink Horrors as the sacrifice and summoning more Heralds of Tzeentch.  Use the 30 point allowance to spend 25 points and make the Heralds ML2.  If you run out of Pink Horrors, go back to Step 2.
Step 4: If you run out of castings of #4 and still have Warp Dice available, just summon more Pink Horrors.

You will usually get 9-11 new Heralds assuming you use 3 dice per casting.  Don't worry too much about Perils of the Warp as it's very unlikely that you will roll poorly and lose your whole unit.

Turn 2.
If your opponent has a slow army, or is still waiting for reserves to come in to be effective, do the above again. If not...
Step 1. Summon as many Greater Daemons of Khorne (Bloodthirster Apocalypse) as you can and sit back to watch the fun.  Use your remaining Warp Dice to complete the Turn 1 routine.

I'm showing that if nothing really bad happens on your opponent's first turn, you should be able to summon around 6 Bloodthirsters on turns 2.

I don't see why wouldn't be legal.  Please leave comments if you can see any issues.

The best part about this army is that the Heralds and Pink Horrors side of things are pretty cheap.  Since a Herald is just a jazzed up Pink Horror, I would use the Horrors and just make them a deeper purple color or something.  Maybe give them blueish arms and legs to differentiate.  The list basically creates an endless stream of these guys:
