Space Wolves Wulfen + Curse of the Wulfen Campaign

There were some blurry pics out there of a possible Wulfen sighting and then BOOM...  we've got a German language datasheet to look at.

These guys look absolutely amazing to me.  The unit starts out as 5 Wulfen for 150 points.  You can upgrade one of them to a Pack Leader for 20 points.  This gets him a set of two Frost Claws.  I don't know what those are, but based on the picture, using them involves going into a bitchin' Karate Kid pose.

Looks like they can also run and charge in the same turn and MAYBE get some free rerolls to their attacks?  My German is crap.  My wife speaks it fluently, but has no idea what any of the rules mean.  When I ask her to translate, it's always sort of vague...  "This unity can run and...  rush at someone in sort of a menacing way? during the same period of time.  They can get to redo their rushing rolls?"  I love my wife!

I can't wait for the proper White Dwarf to come out so that I can get an English copy of these rules.  These guys are just too awesome looking.  Here are the OLD, long out of print previous Wulfen models for comparison.  The new ones really highlight the bestial nature of these marines more so than the old ones did.

Biovore Conversion Idea

I found a pretty good tutorial on how to make Biovores out of Warriors.  I'm going to end up with some spare Warriors, so I might give this a shot.

The tutorial comes from here...

Here are a couple of shots of the outcome.  Pretty impressive, actually.  The painted ones look amazing.

Snowpocalypse + Tyranids

So, we got about 18 inches of snow on Saturday.  That was fun.  Normally, being snowed in would equate to tons of hobby work.  Not so this past weekend.  I did the following.

1. Shoveled out my car (it was in a snow drift ~3ft high)
2. Shoveled out the wife's car (it was in a snow drift ~3ft high)
3. Shoveled out the neighbor's car (it was in a snow drift ~3ft high)
...freaking snow drifts
4. Gutted my bedroom.
5. Gutted every closet in the place.
6. Threw out NINE full bags of garbage.  Seriously, I have something like 40 pillow cases.  Who needs that?
7. Prepped four big storage bins of stuff to donate to Goodwill and local women's shelters.  I don't have the room, but a lot of what I wanted to get rid of still has value to someone.

I also made some pretty epic meals.  Smoked Paprika Tilapia and Beef & Broccoli.  Boom.  +2 to my Cooking Skill.  I'll get that Chef Title in no time.  (I'm somewhere around Kitchen Urchin right now.)

BUT...  did I do any hobby work?

Yup, a little.  I have MOST of a Tyrannocyte assembled as well as the Mucolid Spore Cluster and 6 regular Spores that come with the kit.  If you follow the directions, you can't assemble both the Tyrannocyte and the Mucolid.  This is because they share the same tentacles that they stand on.  These are absolutely essential for the Mucolid, but really just look like decoration for the Tyrannocyte.  My intent is to make it look like it's crashing down onto a piece of an Imperial building.

Here's photographic evidence that I was semi-productive from a hobby standpoint.  This is actually a pretty massive kit.  First up is a shot showing the top half of Tyrannocyte and the Mucolid in comparison to our friendly Soul Drinkers Marine.

Next up is everything from the kit so far.  The weird round thing is the bottom half of the Tyrannocite.  I'll probably not glue it on so that I can use the Tyrannocyte as a Sporocyst sometimes.

More to come!  Hopefully the next update will have a fancy base for this Tyranid "I'm totally not a Drop Pod" Drop Pod.

Awesome Mail Day

Today was a pretty solid day for the old postal service.  They brought me not one, but two packages of hobby fun times.

The first is the Tyranid Getting Started box that I ordered from eBay BEFORE it was released as a preorder.  It just got here today.  Nice and late.  Oh well, such is life when you buy from eBay.

We're supposed to be getting two feet of snow starting tomorrow, so the plan is to use that time stuck inside to get some models assembled.  I still have lots of Maelstrom's Edge stuff to work on also, so it's not like I'm short on things to work on.

The second thing I got was my delivery of Gruff, a Kickstarter project I backed.  It's a card game where you play as a mad shepherd controlling a group of mutant goats who fight each other.  It looks promising and has one of the coolest packages I've seen in awhile.  I'm pretty psyched to try it out.

I'll write a quick review once I've had a chance to play a game or two.

More MEdge

I was able to get a little more modelling hobby work done yesterday.  I started with a command Scarecrow model.  These guys are actually pretty cool.  They're on 25mm bases and are a little taller than a Space Marine, but noticeably thinner.  The amazing part is that this guy is FOURTEEN pieces.  I know that I went with a pretty static pose, but these guys are actually VERY pose-able.

Here are some of his friends.

Also, I have jury duty tomorrow.  It's for a special criminal trial that may take up to 5 weeks.  Solid fun.

Quartermaster App

For those of you who don't know, Quartermaster is an absolutely fantastic army list builder for iOS.  If you're not familiar with it, check it out.

The news item for today is that I'm in the middle of creating a Quartermaster template for Maelstrom's Edge.  I've got the Karist side of things almost done.  As soon as I have the Epirian stuff done, I'll post an update with the files.

Here's a sneak peak showing that I'm not full of crap.

Maelstrom's Edge!

My Maelstrom's Edge pledge finally came in.  I'm planning on doing some work on it over the weekend.  Here are a couple of pictures to show how much stuff is in the box as well as one assembled Angel and some Minnows.

What's all in here?  Bubble wrap!  I'll post more pics of the individual components soon.

I assembled the Angel stuff.  You can see how big the Angel is below next to a Soul Drinkers Marine.  It's a pretty decent size.

Proof that I'm doing Stuff! Tyranids Edition

So, I got a bunch of Tyranid stuff assembled and primed.  I've also worked out my intial 500 point list.  It may be awful.  I'm not sure yet as I've never played with or against Tyranids in any meaningful way.  I may rage quit and never get past 500 points.  We'll see.

The list will be...

HQ Tyranid Prime w/Devourer and Bonesword/Lashwhip
Troops 3x Tyranid Warriors, 1 w/Venom Cannon and Rending Claws, 2 w/Devourer and Bonesword/Lashwhip
Troops 12x Termagants w/Devourers
Troops 3x Ripper Swarms w/Deep Strike and Spinefists
Troops 3x Ripper Swarms w/Deep Strike and Spinefists

And primed!

Super Quick Update

My buddy talked me into learning Star Wars Armada.  It's really a ton of fun.  The only current issue with the game is that I don't have more people to play with.  I'm planning on playing the Imperial Navy side of things and will most likely do a little bit of painting to make my force my own...  not much.  Maybe a little red here and there.

I'm also STILL waiting on the Tyranids I ordered from eBay.  I'm not super happy that it's taking this long, but such is life.  I can't really progress with my escalation army until I get the models that are on order.

Lastly, and in a moment of weakness, I bought a copy of the new Tau Empire Getting Started box.  It's really an amazing deal.  You get a unit of Strikers, a unit of Crisis Suits and an Ethereal on Hover Drone.  The Crisis Suits alone are $75.  The kit altogether is $85.  I should have some pictures up soon of these things.  My phone is acting up and isn't copying photos to my Dropbox account.
