My buddy plays a lot of Infinity and asked me to paint up some more models for him. This is a pretty quick and dirty color scheme intended to more or less replicate the official scheme. I think it's a pretty good fit. In any case, my buddy was pretty excited, so I guess I did a good job! haha

Painted Necron Flayers
Totally happy with how these turned out. I used an airbrush to do the skin. Bugman's Glow followed by Flayed One Flesh. The airbrush gives me tons of transition. I then sprayed a tint of Reikland Fleshshade over the whole thing before going to town on the details. Again, really happy with how they turned out.
I was a little concerned that the skin would make them look weird compared to the rest of the army, but I think there are enough common points to tie them in. Here's a quick shot with a few other models from my team.

I'm Back!
...and I actually painted something.
I have a Star Wars Armada Store Championship to go to in Bel Air, MD this weekend. I'm going to be using a list made up of an Imperial Class Star Destroyer and two basic Arquitens ships. I primed the Arqs last night and slapped a little paint on them after work last night. The scheme is stupid easy, but I like how it's kind of menacing.

Some Painting!
My buddy Kevin asked me if I could paint up some Infinity models for him. These models tend to be pretty spindly and the box art is unreasonably beautiful with things like wet blended non-metallic metal on a 2 mm piece of armor. I offered to paint one model, and then if he was happy, paint the rest.
This is what I'm trying to replicate without going crazy...
I think I did an OK job. Kevin seemed pretty happy and we're going to talk about painting the rest in a week or two. This will be my first actual commission in a while. I realize the base is crazy sloppy. It's just there for some contrast. I have no idea how he wants the bases.
The Paint Scheme...
Armor - Base Fenrisian Grey, Wash Drakenhof Nightshade, Drybrush Fenrisian Grey, Drybrush Pallid Wych Flesh
Cloth - Base Inner Areas Zadri Dust, Base Outer Areas Straken Green, Wash Athonian Camoshade
Face - Base Bugman's Glow, Highlight Kislev Flesh, Was Reikland Fleshshade
Hair - Baneblade Brown
Guns - Base Eshin Grey, Drybrush Codex Grey
Red Spots - Evil Sunz Scarlet
Base - Base Zandri Dust, Base Rim Black
Testor's Clear Coat Varnish Spray

Paint Night!
I had the most fun this week. My wife took me out for a paint night at a local restaurant. It's like a meal and paint class in one. There might be one near you. It's a multi-country kind of thing.
https://www.paintnite.com/
I walked in to see this...
Halfway through, the painting is taking shape.
And done! I've never painted on canvas before. I loved it. I will definitely be doing so again. It's amazing how miniature brush skills translate to the big canvas. At the very least, I see more freehand work in my future.

Prepping to Paint
I've been working a little here and there on some of the models I got from the Showcase Comics game swap. Over the last week or two, I've assembled, based and primed...
- A Tech-Priest Dominus
- Two Kastelan Robots with their Datasmith
- Five Corpuscarii Electro-Priests
My plan is to try to get some of these in fighting shape... i.e. painted to a table standard... by this weekend. I know I won't be able to paint all of them, but I should be able to get about half done. The people I've been playing with mostly have painted armies and are always making progress, so it's a solid motivator.

Belisarius Cawl Gets Some Paint
This model is amazing. I decided to sit down finally and paint it to match the rest of my Skitarii army. Next, I'll probably add some Cult Mechanicus units to continue the AdMech theme.
The color scheme is as such...
1. Prime Black
2. Dry brush Leadbelcher over all the metal bits
3. Base coat the cloth in Xereus Purple
4. Highlight the cloth with Genestealer Purple
5. Base coat various bits in Balthasar Gold
6. Base coat various bits in Warpstone Glow
7. Highlight the Warpstone Glow bits with Moot Green
8. Over brush the base with Rhinox Hide
9. Dry brush the base with Steel Legion Drab
10. Light dry brush the base with Flayed One Flesh
11. Rim the base with Steel Legion Drab
12. Base coat the skin with Bugman's Glow
13. Wash the skin with Reikland Fleshshade
14. Dry brush the skin with Cadian Fleshtone
See... simple. Just 14 easy steps! The entire model took maybe an hour or so to paint. Realistically, most of what you see is a flat base coat with one highlight or a dry brush over primer. There's very little advanced skill required for this sort of table standard.
Here he is, waiting for paint...

...and here he is with paint! Also, I set him next to a handful of Skitarii Rangers so that you can see both the scale and how well he fits in with the rest of the army.
Here's a front and back shot by himself.
I like how the green bits add a nice spot color to the model. I didn't add much, but without the green, the color scheme is super bland.
Proof that there's a dude in there somewhere... Cawl still has his original left arm and hand.
I love this spider thing. And yes, I know I forgot to paint the book. I'll get to it. Maybe. The model looks fine as is. I'll probably do a little detail work on the book, but "later".
More to come! I'm hoping to pick up a Kataphron box in the next week or two.

I Painted a Butt.
I don't know whether I should celebrate or cry in shame. I painted one of the Pelegarth Bloodmasks as a test model. I rarely paint much skin, so this was sort of a new thing. I was surprised to find that the models are actually a lot rougher than I thought they were initially. It was tough to get a smooth base coat in places. All told, I think it worked out.
These are the colors I used. I'm mainly posting this as a reference for myself, but if you want to try to replicate the effect, here you go...
The skin is a base of Ratskin Flesh, which required several watered down coats to make smooth. It's a base, but it doesn't cover well. I then washed with Reeikland Fleshshade. I finished the model with a highlight of Cadian Fleshtone on all the raised areas. I think I needed 2-3 watered down layers to get a smooth coverage.
For the base, I drybrushed Rhinox Hide, followed with Steel Legion Drab and Flayed One Flesh. The rim is based with Steel Legion Drab.
The metal bits are just Leadbelcher washed with whatever the black wash is called... Nuln Oil? The red parts are Mephiston Red and Evil Sunz Scarlet. I put a little black wash in the eye sockets to give some depth. I did try a little Blood for the Blood God on the sword. I'm not sold on the effect, but figured that I bought the paint... I should use it.
It's going to take FOREVER to paint all these skin. I don't know what I was thinking. At least now that I have a scheme, I should be able to knock them out fairly quickly. For the Patrol list, I only have to paint 5 more. The Brutes are also all skin, but it's a different model, so should feel like a different painting experience.

Iron Warriors - Plasma Gun Dude
We're two weeks into our Heralds of Ruin campaign, and I have Requisition Points to spend! I read through the rules a little more closely and realized that models can be "upgraded" by putting the points used for a previous upgrade towards a new one.
As an example, a Legion Tactical Support Marine is 15 points. He comes with a Flamer as his default weapon. For +5 points, I can upgrade him to have a Volkite Caliver. For +15 points, I can upgrade him to have a Meltagun, instead. Now, let's say I gave him that Volkite Caliver in Week 1, but then decided to upgrade him to have a Meltagun in Week 2. I'll get a 5 point credit for the Volkite weapon that I can apply to the cost of the Meltagun, meaning I only have to spend an extra 10 points. Now, let's say that I want to drop him back down to a Volkite Caliver in Week 3. I'll get a 15 point credit for the Meltagun, but I won't get anything back when I spend the 5 points on the Caliver.
What does this all mean? Well, it means I realized that if I have a Meltagun (which one of my dudes has), I can swap it out for the same points cost Plasma Gun in between weeks based on the army I'm facing. SO.... I needed to paint a Plasma Gun Dude.
Here he is. I'm particularly happy with the freehand hazard stripes and the face. I was debating trying to do some object sourced lighting based on the plasma coil, but I don't want to screw up the model.
The collection of painted Iron Warriors is coming along, slowly, but surely. Here's a group shot...

Ironjawz Kryptboyz Painting
Painting has occurred. It's a pretty dark color scheme, so I decided to jazz up the bases with bright green slime. The Ardboyz in particular look pretty plain from the front. They're much better from the back. You can see quite a bit of additional blue. I'll probably go back and fill in some additional detail in terms of hatch marks and maybe some checkerboard on the shoulderpads. Depends on how much work I get done on the rest of the army. It's playable now, but only these 10 guys are painted. I'd really like to have the entire army painted by 11/12.
I still need to paint the one cloth banner and the skulls on the other banner.

Ironjawz Kryptboyz Incoming
I've finally decided on a paint scheme. I'll be going with GW's official Kryptboyz color scheme. I think I'll be able to pull it off before 11/12 despite it actually having a ridiculous number of steps. Seriously. The official schemes are easy to replicate and always looks great, but have soooooo many steps.
Fortunately, the majority surface area of most of the army is black armor. In this scheme, the black armor is primed black and then highlighted with Stormvermin Fur. There isn't much to it. Most of the steps come into play with the details. The Ardboys are going to be pretty easy to burn through. I need to come up with a scheme for painting the banners, but otherwise I have the paints all worked out. The paints in red are the ones I need to buy. I'll be doing that later today.

ACTUAL Stormcast Eternals (Unlike Yesterday)
I'm digging this color scheme. I wasn't sure at first, because I thought it would be a little too dark. Now that I have two 5 man units plus the Lord-Relictor done, I'm getting a better picture of how it's going to look on the battle field. I think it's going to work out just fine.
Plus, I technically have a full, Matched Play legal army at this point. It's only 280 points so far, but it has two Battleline units and one Leader.

Mansions of Madness - Deep Ones Painted
I sat down and knocked out another monster group for Mansions of Madness. These are so easy to work with because the detail is so light. It's literally just a series of dry brush layers in various places. It sure beats grey plastic and improves the game. Again, I changed out the bases.
These are the colors I used. Rhinox Hide and Deathclaw Brown for the bases. The "skin" is a seris of the two greens and the yellow sing dry brushes only. The white and red are for teeth and eyes. Seriously, nothing fancy here. Anyone can do this.

Mansions of Madness - Cultists Painted
Quick update... I got the Cultists done from Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition.
These models felt like super old and crappy sculpts. I'm seriously considering just replacing them with the Reaper Bones Cultist models. They're pretty cheap and realistically, I'd only need a handful. It seems rare to have more than two or three cultists on the board at a time. The Reaper models are also nice because there are two different sculpts. I think they cost about $5 for what is pictured below.
These are the colors I used, in the order I used them. Should be pretty self-explanatory.

Mansions of Madness - Hunting Horrors Painted
I had some additional free time and knocked out another couple of Mansions of Madness monsters. The nice thing about painting board game minis is that nobody really expects you to, so literally anything you do is an improvement. I re-did the bases using cork, and then did some really basic dry brushing before picking out eyes, tongue and fangs. It's effective, but not even remotely complicated.
