Painted Necron Flayers

Totally happy with how these turned out.  I used an airbrush to do the skin.  Bugman's Glow followed by Flayed One Flesh.  The airbrush gives me tons of transition.  I then sprayed a tint of Reikland Fleshshade over the whole thing before going to town on the details.  Again, really happy with how they turned out.

I was a little concerned that the skin would make them look weird compared to the rest of the army, but I think there are enough common points to tie them in.  Here's a quick shot with a few other models from my team.

A Simple Head Swap

Those Grimghast Reapers worked out pretty well.  A simple head swap using Immortal heads and I have what I think will be pretty solid Flayers.  The plan is to paint them to look like they're covered in layers of bloody skin with blood effects on the scythe blades.  The stripe down the forehead will be the blue to tie into the rest of my army.

Ironjawz Orruk Megaboss Conversion

I decided that the leader of my Ironjawz war band would be an Orruk Megaboss.  The offical model is definitely nice looking, but doesn't wow me.  It basically looks like a slightly upscaled Brute.

Enter this guy...

He's the Green Goblin model from Disney's Infinity video game thing.  I've used a Hulkbuster Iron Man from the same line before to act as a Tau Empire Riptide.  I know you can't tell the scale in the above photo, but this guy fits on a 60mm base, same as the Megaboss, but is about twice as tall.

I sifted through my bits box and came up with a ton of bits that I thought would work.  I think when  I get some paint on him, he'll fit right in with my war band.  The barrel in his hand represents the Battle Brew artefact.

Liberator Conversion Ideas

I have five more Stormcast Eternals Liberators that I need to assemble, but I want to make these special.  I've been googling conversions and it looks like most people just turn them into Space Marines or Inquisitor models.  I did find a cool clockwork look that I really like.  I have no idea where the hands come from though.

It's amazing what something as simple as a head and weapon swap can do for a model.

Biovore Conversion Idea

I found a pretty good tutorial on how to make Biovores out of Warriors.  I'm going to end up with some spare Warriors, so I might give this a shot.

Tau Empire XV95 Ghostkeel Counts-As (Infinity Hulkbuster Iron Man)

I've been wanting to get myself a Ghostkeel so that I can run the Optimized Stealth Cadre Formation.  With it being this close to Christmas, though, I can't really justify spending much money on myself.  I happened upon a posting where somebody had spray painted one of the below models silver and was using it as some sort of Necron C'tan counts-as.  I thought to myself...  this is exactly what I need.

The model is a Hulkbuster Suit Iron Man for a Disney video game called Infinity.  You set the model on top of a little platform and then you can use them in game.  The model cost me 14 USD at a store where I had some store credit.  In other words, sort of free!

Step one was to cut off the base.  I want this model to blend in as much as possible with my existing army.  Consistent basing is a really good way to make this happen.  Cutting through that much vinyl dulled several razor knives and cut up my fingers pretty good.  But...  success!

Thankfully, the bottom of his feet will not be visible!

Once the annoying vinyl base was stripped off, I glued him, along with some cork, onto a flying base.  This official Ghostkeel comes with a 105mm oval base.  This guy is on a 120mm oval base, so he's a little bigger.  I doubt anyone will notice or complain.  It'll just make him a bigger target.

Now to add on a big Ion weapon and a couple of Fusion Blasters, along with some other Tau bits and bobs.  I also used some wooden furniture discs to give that rounded Tau look in a couple of places.

In the next two phots, you can see that he's imposing, but definitely fits in with the rest of the army.  The aesthetic is a little off, but I think a paint job will go a long way towards covering that up.  I'm still looking for a small Tau logo that I can shave off of something else and put on him somewhere...  likely on his shoulder pad.

I can't wait to get a little paint on this guy.  I'm hoping that the weather holds up and I can get him primed and painted this weekend.

Necron Immortals with Light Conversion

I decided I needed a break from the world, so I sat down and painted the five Immortals that I recently re-based.  This was a relatively quick job.  Since these are intended for regular play, I'm not wasting my time giving them a really solid paint job.  As I type this, it's 8:51PM on Thursday.  I didn't start these until at least 6PM or so, so you're looking at less than 3 hours of work.

You can see some light conversion work done on these models.  The "Sarge" model, i.e., the one with the brass face armor, was lucky enough to score a Deathmark torso.  This is mainly because I dropped, and then promptly crushed by stepping on, the Immortal torso.  I think it turned out fine.  All five have Deathmark heads with Tau Empire Crisis Suit antennas glued to the side.

In my head, these Necrons were awoken when a Tau Earth Caste Engineering Crew started screwing around with some old tech found in a cave.  They found these five defunct robots and wired in an antenna to patch them into the Drone network.  This had the unexpected side effect of waking them up!  Fluff is fun.  I like to give my models stories sometimes.

This next shot really shows how well some cork and a 32 mm base makes an Immortal so much more imposing than a Warrior.  I'm really happy with this difference.  I think the little Tau antennas also help by giving the Immortals another 3-4mm of height...

And lastly, going into battle with a Lord.  This is probably how I'll field them...

I'm not sure what I'll paint next.  I think the next week might be a build week.  I need to assemble 8 more Warriors and 3 Tomb Blades to be able to field a Decurian Detachment.  That's sort of the end goal.  Build the Reclamation Legion Core and then start working an auxiliary detachments with the Destroyer Cult and Canoptek Harvest Formations being first.

Nihilakh Dynasty Necron Lord #2 - Custom Conversion

Having painted my first Lord, I decided to go crazy and paint my second one.  I mean, what does an army with only 5 painted Troops need more of?  HQ choices!!!

Anyways, this one is a custom conversion.  I'm really happy with how it turned out.  I used the Warhammer Fantasy Cairn Wraith model for inspiration.  This is the stock model from the GW website...

I thought this would look really nice as a Necron Lord conversion.  From a fluff standpoint, I'm imagining that this Lord made a deal with a particularly crafty Cryptek who was able to make the Lord's necrodermis body a little more fluid.  In other words, his body is a constantly shifting mass of necrodermis that floats and flows through battle, cutting his opponent's down as he moves.

I'm really happy with how this turned out.

Necrons Canoptek Scarab Swarms Batch #1

I had some free time on Sunday and decided to go through and repaint some of my old Canoptek Scarabs to match this new color scheme.  I'm really happy with the way they turned out.  Here's the old scheme for comparison.  It's certainly not bad, but the eyes don't really pop and the Scarabs themselves sort of blend into the base.

For the Nihilakh Dynasty, I made the legs and head silver, the body the aged turquoise and the eye a nice glowing green.  I'm much happier with the results this time around.  I feel like they really pop now and just look better on the table.

I was able to complete eight of them so far and have another eight to go.  I'm planning on acquiring more and doing some little vignettes...  maybe have them crawling over broken Dreadnought arms or Rhino armour plates.

Coolest Necron Conversion Ever!

I did not do this, but may very well have to take some inspiration from it.  This is awesome.  Granted, based on the bits I see in there, this model probably cost $200 or so in conversion parts.  I see at the very least a box of Wraiths, a Monolith an Annihilation Barge and leftover bits from some Grey Knight guns.

I'm not sure who did this, but there were some other photos google found from the same guy in a random forum post somewhere.

Triarch Stalker Conversion Complete (Almost!)

As I was starting to type this, I realized I hadn't taken any new pictures of the fully complete model!  The basing is done.  You'll have to be happy with the above photo until I get a chance to take more photos.  Maybe this weekend.  You'll see the complete model in action by Monday at the latest.

Necron Conversion Ideas

I spent the evening at my buddy Steve's place doing some hobby work.  I assembled 6 Necron Wraiths, which will be one of the next units that I'll be adding.  I do want to add some sort of Character model to the unit which fits the aesthetic.  This will most likely be a converted Destroyer Lord or "Wraith Lord".  I did a quick Google search for inspiration and found some random pics.  If any of these are yours, let me know and I'll credit you!
