Pig Iron Studios Helmets

As you can see from the below photo, I decided that my Scouts should have helmets.  Well, some of them at any rate.  I do plan on doing some Wolf Scouts with appropriately bare heads, but I generally like the ideas of helmets to go along with my Scout Armour.

The only bit of fluff I could find regarding Scout Helmets is in a Black Library short story about a Wolf Scout who is piloting his own space ship on some sort of mission.  I completely forget the name of the story, but at some point the Scout makes a comment about how he doesn't like wearing the helmet because the face plate is all glass and they tend to shatter and cut up your face.

Given this, I wanted glass faced helmets.

I finally found what I was looking for on the Pig Iron Studios website.  The helmets are called HD.19 System Trooper Alternative Heads and come in packs of 20 for 5 GBP.  That's around 8 dollars US for those of you who don't like doing math.  Pig Irons has a TON of different, cool looking minis and sells most of the heads separately.  The heads are made of metal, so I did have to pin them, but this definitely makes them a little cheaper than resin options.  Since there really isn't much detail, I wasn't worried about the lack of detail.

I'd definitely recommend you check out the website and give them a shot.

A Storm is Brewing

A Land Speeder Storm, that is!  Har, har, har.  I crack myself up sometimes.

Seriously, though.  I did some actual painting yesterday.  I'm was going for a 70's style pleather vibe for the seats and I think I pulled it off.  I still have lots of work to do, but I'm happy with how it's looking so far.  I did realize that I need to go buy some more paints, and with my local GW store having closed...  that can be sort of a pain.

There is a gaming store on the Main Street of my local town, but it's run by sweaty neckbeards who seem almost hostile towards gamers, so I prefer not to give them any money whenever possible.  I'll probably have to make a drive to the next town over to get what I need.

Here is the latest update pic.  More to come!  If you look there, you can see my completed test Scout wearing his bitchin' Pig Iron Studios helmet.

Land Speeder Storm Work in Progress - All Base Coating is Complete, Highlighting Commences

Next I really need to work on the line highlighting, a little wear and tear battle damage and then glaze the whole thing in the yellow glaze.  Makes it pop!  Oh, and the gun isn't going to be silver.  That's a base coat.

I'm Back!!!

I'm back from the Big Apple!

Posts should recommence this week.  I've got a couple of things to post about.

The first is that I'm working on a gaming table.  The local GW store here in Delaware closed recently and I'm left with two choices.  I can either travel 45min to an hour to a store with basically no community, but a couple of gaming tables...  or I can build a table myself.

I did a little research and ended up deciding to use the same tables that Dropzone Games in Glen Burnie, MD uses.  The tables are pretty easy to work with.  You purchase a set of 4 legs for about $60 US.  You can order them from Lowes in the US or Amazon.com or wherever you can find them.  You then need to come up with a number of 2x4s and some 4'x6' plywood or MDF surfaces.  It supposedly takes about an hour to assemble once you have everything in hand.

2x4Basics Table

Once assembled, I'll put together a series of 2'x2' segments to allow me to swap out and rearrange the table.  The first set will most likely be a sort of standard wilderness table with accompanying terrain.

A Quick Upate - Land Speeder Storm

I have just a couple of seconds and a reliable connection to post what I'm working on right now.  It'll be painted using the Aurora Chapter color scheme in the Citadel How to Paint spiral bound book/dvd combo that came out a couple of years ago.

Should be fun.  I slapped a little paint on it already, but just base coat stuff.  It'll be a much brighter green when it's done.

Losing my Internet

I'm not going to have reliable internet access for the next month or so.  I WILL have a fair amount of hobby time, so when I do get internet back I should have quite a bit to post.

See you then!

Still Alive

I know it's been a week without a post, but I'm just not caught back up yet.

I'll be taking not this week, but next week to get everything in order.  At that point, I'm going to put together a hobby schedule and start cranking out models.

I'm also going to expand this blog to include some of my other hobbies.  This will probably include video games, other table top games and board games.

Stupid life and all of its demands!

7th Edition Grey Knights Codex

It looks like the Grey Knights will be getting a new codex based on this leaked photo of next week's White Dwarf magazine.  I'm not optimistic that they will be getting any new models based on the fact that there are a trio of Dreadknights on the cover.  I'd have to go back and look, but I'm pretty sure every time there has been a new model release, the new model has been on the cover.

The general rumor mill consensus is that this codex release is intended to bring Grey Knights into line with the rest of the 7th edition rules changes.  However, there are a couple of things that might happen that I can see GW catching flak for.

1. There is a strong possibility that the Inquisitorial elements will be removed from the codex.  There is already a Codex: Inquisition, so there is really no need for these models to be in the Grey Knights book.  This makes sense and I approve of the decision, but unless the units are replaced with something else, the book is going to take a big nerf...  and I'm talking in terms of value for the dollar.

2. Any units entries without models are likely to be removed.  This includes Mordrak and his Ghost Knights, Justicar Thawn and Inquisitor Valeria.  I might be missing others.

3. The Assassins will likely be removed and redone in a small Codex: Assassins release similar to the Legion of the Damned Release.  This is my theory, but I'm imagining a "Officio Assassinorum Detachment" consisting of 1 Assassin of any variety.  As they are unique, you could potentially just add all 4 assassins to any army.  This would be amazing.

You'll note that nothing is rumored to be added.  I can see maybe getting some of the units that are in the regular Space Marines codex, but this isn't really anything new.  You can do this now with allies.

If the above things are true and units are being stripped out without replacement, I think GW is going to have a hard sell charging 50 USD for a hardback codex.  They'll do it, but it's going to feel like a slap in the face.  They really need to work out a better method for providing these rules.  You can't just take away.

How hard is it to come up with new Grey Knights appropriate units.  Here are two off the top of my head.

1. Grey Knights Scouts - Up armored Scouts (maybe 4+/6++) with the option for the Scout Justicar to take a Nemesis weapon.  This would be stupid easy to do.  Fluff reason - sometimes you need to be sneaky so you leave your Termie armor at home.  Or just say that these are GKs who have been through decades of training and typically only defend Titan unless the need is great.

2. Heavy Psycannon Weapons Platform - Deep Strike capable artillery piece manned by a Techmarine with various psy-capable weapons.  This could look cool and requires no fluff reason.

Organization

I'm still working on getting organized.

Too much is happening in my life right now and I feel like I haven't had a proper day off in ages.  I know this isn't true, but I'm starting to feel overwhelmed.  When you're overwhelmed, rationality doesn't really factor into what you're feeling.

I'm considering taking tomorrow off and sleeping in before getting to work on my hobby room.

Too Much Going On

I feel like I have way too much hobby stuff going on right now.  I'm jumping from project to project and not really finishing anything.

I'm going to spend the next couple of days coming up with a list of things I'm working on and then put a scheduled plan into place to finish everything.

I think thing number one will be the Inquisitional Land Raider.  After that, I should probably finish the Inquisitor's Henchmen Retinue.  I don't know that I'll play with them, but I'm much more likely to do so if they're painted.

Expect a list very soon.

Work Overload

I'm sorry I have nothing to post today.

I know this isn't an excuse, but my reason is that work has been crazy this week.  I've been staying late almost every day.  My boss and boss's boss are both out this week and everything has blown up.

Sigh...

And now I have to leave to go to work again.

I hope to have more work done on the Land Raider this weekend.

In the meantime, you can't get mad if you're seeing this adorable sad kitten!
